Wanting to breastfeed, but having challenges?

Just because breastfeeding is “natural” doesn’t mean it’s always easy!

I’ve worked with breastfeeding families like yours since 2016 - with Friends of Breastfeeding, Cuidiu, and as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).

Some issues may be a quick fix, while others require a bit more help. Whatever the case may be, I work with you to create a breastfeeding plan that is tailored specifically to your needs.

With your permission, I may consult with colleagues (other IBCLCs), your GP or public health nurse. Depending on the challenge, it may be necessary to refer you and your baby to an appropriate health care provider.

Breastfeeding Problems

(1.5-2 hours - €140)

A lot happens in a home visit, and depends on the issues you and your baby might be experiencing. Generally, it includes:

  • observing a feed

  • an assessment of your baby’s mouth, tongue and suck (if necessary)

  • a visual breast assessment (if necessary)

  • discussion about the challenges you are experiencing

  • suggestions for possible changes to position, techniques to improve latch

  • plenty of time for your questions and concerns to be answered

  • working together to co-create a care plan to resolve/improve any issues you’ve identified

  • 10 day after care period (text/WhatsApp) for any further questions or concerns

  • revision of care plan if necessary

Home Visit

(1 hour - €80)

In some cases, the 10 day after care period and care plan revision may not be enough to resolve or improve some issues.

In these instances, I will generally advise or offer a follow-up visit. This will be similar to the first home visit, but will not require as much time.

Follow-up Visits

(1 hour - In Home - €100, Online - €80)

Maternity leave in Ireland is generally 26 weeks, and as many parents return to work, their babies will begin creche or staying with a childminder.

It is entirely possible to return to work and continue to breastfeed; in fact, it has hugely protective benefits for your baby!

In Returning to Work sessions, I work with you to come up with a plan for your return to work while continuing to breastfeed. This can be done in the comfort of your own home, or online.

Returning to Work

“Kirsten has a wealth of experience in everything feeding related from her work with breastfeeding groups, her own personal experiences and the countless new mums that I know who she has helped. She has an incredibly compassionate and supportive approach and makes you feel completely comfortable, really listens to you and shares helpful ideas and guidance. I would have no hesitation in recommending her as a wonderful lactation consultant.”
